The Dorm Room Diet

Before I start this post, it really has nothing to do with New Years resolutions. It isn't my New Years goal to lose a bunch of weight and get into shape, that is always my goal! Duh. It will be my goal today, tomorrow and months from now when most New Years resolutions are a thing of the past.

I love food way too much to go much farther than not eating meat. I've thought about going vegan for awhile, or doing the whole raw food thing, but the fact is, food is just way too good. I know a lot of you will battle me with this and say that that kind of food is just as good, if not better, but sometimes I just really want a tablespoon of vanilla frosting...out of the plastic jar.

I'll admit that right now I'm having a hard time getting back into working out and eating right. It's a challenge to want to workout after I've been running around a kitchen for nine plus hours. Eating right is a little bit easier now that I am out of classes and am not constantly around French, buttery food. It's a work in progress, but I'm getting back on my feet. After all, fitting in to my new wedding dress provides a crap-ton of motivation.

Today, while I was making lunch, I had a little revolution. There was another time in my life when I was having this very same battle and I had a weird, but successful, plan that helped me lose 10+ pounds. I'm thinking of giving it another shot. This diet is probably insane, and I'm not saying that it's going to help me (or anyone) lose weight, but it seems simple enough to give it a go again. When I was living at UNH during my freshmen year I battled with the infamous freshmen fifteen and this is (partially) how I lost all of that weight.

Breakfast
Cereal and Skim Milk
Sadly, I don't have over twenty different kinds of cereal to choose from in my pantry...

Lunch
Tuna Melt Wrap
I love my tuna. I'm going to pick up some whole wheat wraps, provolone cheese and a variety of proteins, because eating that much tuna cannot be healthy for you. I'll just wrap it up and toast it quickly in a small frying pan. Done and done.

Dinner
Stir Fry Salads
Instead of serving stir fry on top of rice or noodles, I used to substitute it with fresh spinach and salad greens. I really just want to focus more on less carbs at dinner and more veggies and protein.

Of course, healthy snacks will be involved and I'm sure I'll find something for a good dessert. I used to have cereal with frozen yogurt, but it's a brisk 20 degrees outside and talking about a frozen treat gives me goosebumps.

I'm not sure what made this diet work, or even if it's the legit reason, but I'm willing to dive back into my little delicious menu. I do believe that one element really did aid in weight loss and that was drinking milk. I drank a lot of skim milk mixed with chocolate milk. I think bringing back milk into my diet is going to make a big difference. I'll try to eat like this a few days a week, while keeping things interesting so we don't get bored with our food.

Do you have any go-to meals that you love when it comes to dieting and trying to lose weight? I'd love to hear them!
