What is the French translation for pizza and wings? I have no clue, but this day was a good day.
On the day before a holiday weekend students get treated with something fun and simple - good old fashioned American cuisine. We made the dough the day before, so really the day just consisted of rolling out pizzas, creating crazy combinations for our toppings and making the most amazing wing sauce I've ever tasted.
We had tons of different toppings to play with, authentic peels and the pastry kitchen's brick oven. We were practically the only people in school so it was nice to have a relaxed, free-flowing day.
I did want to stick to a few flavor combinations I had been thinking about during the week, rather than just winging it with the toppings.
My first pizza was caramelized onions with garlic and honey, with sun-dried tomatoes, goat cheese and fresh red onions drizzled with balsamic reduction. I love caramelized onions and balsamic. It's my sweet tooth kicking in.
Then I had my famous BLT pizza. This famous pizza is always topped with fresh shredded lettuce after it's cooked and I think that scared people away because no one picked it up off of the pizza bar. Just because it has lettuce doesn't mean it's healthy people. Jeez.
And then my little firecracker. I tossed shrimp in the wing sauce, added jalapenos and onions and then topped with cheese. This was one of my favorites.
Everyone made awesome pizzas. We had plenty to choose from.
I also had enough dough leftover to make some garlic knots. YUM.
If you could have any toppings on your pizza, what would they be?
